Writing Buddy Goals Week two

So, I may find out some time this week, if I am returning to the teaching world this fall. Therefore, finishing my novel has never been more important. It is do or die time, sink or swim, and a whole mess of other related idioms. So how did I do holding up my end of the bargain this past week?

Well, I began the week really well. I woke up at 7:30 am and read my novel until about 10:00 each morning in the beginning of the week. My girls and I were still able to fit in bike rides and together time, and I was still able to make all my freelancing deadlines as well.

Then the nearer the 4th of July holiday weekend came, the more off track I became. My husband took a couple days off and my whole plan fell to pot.

But that's OK. We are allowed to take off from time to time too, right? (Do you think JK Rowling ever took off, or Sharon Creech???) Anyway, all that matter is I am back on track this week

So my goals for this week are...
  1. finish reading my novel

  2. continue taking notes for changes to make in the next draft

  3. continue cataloguing characters as they are introduced and what pages they are on so I can see gaps for MCs.

  4. If I can finish all of that, I will write 10 new pages.

So those are my goals for this week. Wish me luck and happy writing everyone!

Good luck!
And it's super important to take time off, but even more important to be honest with yourself, acknowledge it, and get right back on! Super job with setting the goals :)
(You notice I'm not doing my goals while away on vacation.)

Thanks PJ. and I guess you really can't have goals while on vacation, other than seeign this or that. You also need time away from writing. But our minds are always thinking aren't they...

Thanks Jason! Each day I am that much closer to my goal!

How is it going?

It sounds like you have a great plan, Sheri. You're much more organized than I! ;)

It's so difficult to juggle everything. Keep reminding yourself that the fact that you're able to write at all is a remarkable testament to your dedication and love of writing. Sometimes our expectations of ourselves can make things more difficult.

And you're right--just because you're not physically writing doesn't mean that you're not doing some important brainstorming, too. Good luck!!

Oh boy - it's not going well. I am in such a summer mood! Today I blew off writing to go shopping with a girlfriend!!! Oh the guilt! Oh the shame...

And I didn't even buy anything....

hi sheri! thanks for visiting my blog and taking the time to comment. yes, every writing gets off track because life can get in the way (esp with holidays and kids being out of school, etc). i think it's great you have your goals set for yourself!

lots of luck to you!!

Thanks Cindy and thanks for stopping by my blog too. All of you debut authors out there are such an inspiration to me.

You didn't buy anything??

See, you should be proud. Such restraint. :)

No Sarah, not a single item. But I made up for it tonight. Flemington has Music on Main Street on Thursdays and I indulged my daughters. I am just so tired of always having to say no to them all the time. Oh and there was this really drunk lady (At least I kind of hope she was drunk) who was dancing SOOOOOOOOO inappropriately, the cops had to ask her to take a seat!!!! It was kind of funny. It was like a train wreck, you couldn't help but watch.

Chris!! I've missed you so much!! Thanks for the tip, I will check it out. Maybe it will get my writer muscles honed again. I think I've gotten flabby!

Go Speed Racer, GO!

I feel all fired up, now, thanks to YOU Sheri. Thank you.

you must be feeling pretty psyched about your new lease of life here.

keep us posted on the teacher's position, okay?

So far still no word on the teaching position. So I wait and I don't worry, because so far nothings changed. My life is still my life and it will be what it will be no matter how I live through this waiting period. So...

I was off to a good start this week and then I plummeted to the bottom of a deep, dark, vortex, whirling, and whizzing, keeping my brain frozen on the same darn page.

I have not been able to write forward and reach my 10 page mark. I wrote only a sketchy scene at best, in outline form... I need my mojo. Where did my mojo go? Maybe it's on the bottom of the pool, or on the bike path, or in the sale rack at the Gap????
