NaNoWriMo Day Three

Today was a bit harder, only because I had a short time to write in the morning before having to go to the dentist. Then I had a short time to write before my kids got home from school, while I was still in a bit of pain and exhausted from the who dentist thing. Still, I managed to eek out over 1,000 words, so I am happy.

NaNoWriMo Day Three Word Count

Goal: 1667 daily words or 5001 total word count for the three days

Actual: 1516 daily words, 6072total word count

Highlight: I was in some uncharted territory today and that was exciting. The chapter I worked on today, was not just a re-write, but it included a lot of new material I added from my writer's retreat into my outline. Also, the highlight was just having a deadline. I love a deadline. I work very well with ridiculous deadlines. They make me push myself and work against pain and fatigue. If I didn't have this deadline, I wouldn't have written at all today. I probably would have taken some Motrin and a nap after the dentist, but instead I wrote. That feels great! (I;m having some color technical difficulties today...)

Downside: I didn't make my 1667 words for the day, but I am still ahead of the total word count needed for the first three days by 1,071 words, so I am not too upset about it. I'm off to a good start and I feel great. And yes, the NaNo website is still super slow!

You got so close! But sometimes it's hard to push ourselves another 100 or 200 words when we're just done.

Kudos for writing after going to the dentist! That's awesome. And great job on your total word count! I'm keeping ahead while I can as well. I know there are going to be rough days ahead.

I hope day four goes well for you!

Sheri, you're ahead of me! But I've been at work all day, so I'll catch up tonight. :-)

Good work, keep it up!

Thanks Casey. I agree with your philosophy. I think that's what bothered me most about not reaching my word count today. But I was spent and just couldn't think straight and it was the thought knowing I was ahead of the game that made me feel like it was ok to be off just by about 100 words. But I wanted to be way ahead of the game because I know there will be days when I won't have time to write at all.

Becky, I am so glad you are doing this too. It really helps push it out of you, doesn't it? And I am sure tonight, you will surpass me. You'll have to let us know what your word count is...

My favorite part of these posts is the "highlight" section--I love that you're seeking the positive. Keep writing and good luck!

You Beth, just last night I thought... I really don't want to post the downside. And I don't like ending on a bad note either. I don't want to throw any negativity out there. So maybe I'll delete the downside altogether. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Thank you Keri! Today, I worked, went back to the dentist (left New Moon there yesterday - it was a rough night last night without being able to read about Bella), and then went grocery shopping. I am actually still putting groceries away. I hope I can write today at least a little. I will feel very badly if I can't. This week will be tough with the kids home, but I'll figure it out. I have to!

Thanks again for all your support my blogger/writer friends. It means a lot to me!

Congratulations! I'm like that too. Somedays will produce more than others, so don't fret about being a little short. You'll make it up later. I'm just over 18,000 words in my middle grade novel, and my goal is somewhere around 30,000. I'm off to a writer's conference in Charlotte, N.C. this weekend. I'll blog about it when I get back. Can't wait to read about how far you've come!

Thanks Cindy and Amy.

Cindy, hearing your schedule made me feel a bit better. I wasn't able to write yesterday and I wasn't able to write today. So, I am freaking out. But reading your comment made me take a deep breath.

Amy, good luck in Charlotte! I hope all goes well and you come back inspired and clear-headed.
