Favorite Vacation Destinations and The Scholastic Book Fair

LOOK! My elementary school is having their annual Scholastic book fair and plastered to the lunch room doors was this poster. Do you see what I see?
Danette Hayworth's Violet Raines Almost Got Struck by Lightning is featured on the POSTER! Hot dog! Way to go Danette!
Here it is again on the book shelf. I heard they were flying off the shelf and my daughters were bragging, "My mom has a signed copy and "knows" the writer." Funny how blogging with someone constitutes "knowing" these days. But I must admit, I do feel I "know" you guys. We all share the same desire - to be a viable children's author - and when I see a book on the shelf written by one of us, I feel a tremendous sense of pride, a lifted spirit, and that dreams really do come true!

Now shifting gears for a moment...
So sorry for my long disappearance. The spring is a busy time for my freelance writing, so I might be MIA for long jaunts here and there. But not to worry, I am doing fine.

Here's what I'd like to discuss - it's not about writing, sorry for that. I always swore I would keep my blogging focused on my original intention, but this is a burning question and I just need to know!

What is your favorite family vacation destination?
My family and I are trying to plan a trip. It is staggering the amount of info on the web and so hard to discern so I thought with spring and summer breaks looming, this could be a good topic for us to discuss. Where is your favorite family vacation and why? I would love to go to some tropical beach but with all the recent dangers of traveling to Mexico, tourists being held hostage, and the movie TAKEN I just saw, I must admit, I have become a bit of a traveling baby and would prefer to keep it in the USA. Any ideas??? Any suggestions???

Wow--Violet is flying off the shelves!!

I love what your daughter said about us knowing each other. I feel that way too about my blogging buddies!

Where to go? Well, I'm going to the Smokies in a few weeks! Hurray!

My family vacations in the Adirondacks. We started camping there when I was 4 years old. Now my parents own a house up there and all of us kids and grandkids gather midsummer for hiking, canoeing, and cooking over campfires.

I LOVE Book Fairs ... ours is coming up in a few weeks ... I'm probably more excited than my kids! :-) And, you are so right about seeing a blogging friend's book in print ... it's so exciting and thrilling and you just feel so happy for them!
Our family heads to the Oregon Coast ... we're less than 2 hours away, so it's an easy trip for us, and always always fun ... especially when you luck out with beautiful weather! We love Cannon Beach!

I know, isn't that cute, Danette. They were so excited when they saw your book and shouted, LOOK! in the hall at the poster. We had to stop and take a picture, albeit a bad one. Sorry about that!

The Smokies... heard they're beautiful, but this "snow bird" needs the warm sun on her face!

Jeanie, is that YOU? Really you? Wow a face to go with the painings. A pretty one too! The Adirondacks sound relaxing too. I love my Adirondack chairs! I do love camping, hiking, boating, etc. as well. And I love being in nature and with the trees.

I've always wanted to go to Oregon, Kelly. The photos I've seen, it is so beautiful and lush and green. So, how lucky do you have to be to get a sunny, non-rainy day in Oregon???

Thanks everyone, keep the destinations coming! My wheels are turning!

Hmmm ... you asked how lucky you have to be to get a sunny, non-rainy day at the Oregon Coast! This time of the year ... you may need a bit of luck on your side! ;-) Even in the summer it can be tricky ... but, through June, the weather can go either way pretty quickly!

There's a great little island near Savannah Georgia called Jekel Island. It's gorgeous, and this time of year it isn't crowded. Lots of great seafood and lots of sights to see. It's one of my family's favorites!
